Joel H. Feldman
Joel H. Feldman was raised in the small Catskill Mountains town of Kingston, New York. He was educated in Ulster County's public schools and continues to maintain several friendships developed from his pre-teen and teenage years. After graduating with honors from Georgetown University in 1976 and from Duke University School of Law in 1979, and shunning cold weather, Joel moved to Boca Raton, where he has practiced for over 30 years. While enjoying a general practice that allows him to represent clients in a variety of endeavors such as real estate and business sales and purchases, preparation of Wills, civil litigation, corporate formations and advice, he found that his skills were best suited for a family law practice. For the past 15 years, approximately 80% of his practice has been in the area of family law.
Representing clients going through a divorce requires compassion, empathy and legal ability at a time when clients may be going through the worst periods of their lives. Joel has prided himself on giving clients sound advice concerning all aspects of divorce proceedings. His goals are to provide stability and comfort to the client, to minimize the need for pointless animosity, and yet to ensure that the client's rights are respected and protected. The ramifications of a divorce can impact the parties both financially and psychologically for years to come, and Joel tries to make sure the client is ready and prepared for those ramifications.
Joel finds family law to be extremely challenging because of the interplay of personal dynamics and the evolving nature of the law. Florida laws concerning alimony, child support, custody and timesharing, and relocation with children have undergone significant changes especially in the last 10 years. Joel continues to be well-versed in all areas of divorce law, including more difficult issues such as valuations of small businesses, stock options, and retirement plans.
